Adventure Around the World — Treat Your Children this Summer at OPL!

Ottawa – Once again, this summer, Ottawa Public Library (OPL) is launching a vibrant TD Summer Reading Club programming designed to take children aged 0 to 12 on a journey around the world and keep them reading and learning in an active and upbeat way during their school break. From June 26 to August 30, OPL will offer free, engaging, and educational activities that promote literacy through fun and exploration.

The objective of the TD Summer Reading Club is to encourage children across the country to read a little more each day. Through their local library branch, kids of all ages can join the club and track their reading progress on a reading calendar so they can get the chance to win an awesome prize. The Library invites Ottawa children to be part of this adventure and take on the challenge of reading all summer! They will enjoy reading recommendations and can participate anywhere and anytime.

The summer lineup includes an exciting mix of activities such as reading and writing, STEAM, games, arts and crafts, dance and music, nature discovery, health workshops, and much more available both in branches and online.

Children are invited to explore the world around them, connect with nature, engage in STEAM activities, embrace creative expression, move to music and more through a variety of programs.  Look out for special guest presenters from local museums, check out the Library’s animal experts, catch a show from a magician, or attend a world dance workshop for even more excitement. Year-round activities like Storytimes and interactive games add to the fun, helping children connect with peers and explore new topics in a friendly, welcoming environment.

Some programs may require a library card, so parents are encouraged to have their cards ready when browsing the offerings. Families can choose from a variety of programs that support literacy and learning throughout the summer—a time when educational support may be limited.

This seasonal programming reflects OPL’s mission to inspire, educate, connect, and engage. With support from guest presenters and dynamic library staff, children will build skills in storytelling, science, math, fine and gross motor development, digital literacy, and artistic expression.

Registration is now open. Parents, hurry to secure your children’ spots in their favorite programs! It’s the perfect way to fill your child’s days with joy, learning, and exploration.
