Discover a summer of reading delights with OPL's 2024 TD Summer Reading Club 

OTTAWA — Ottawa Public Library (OPL) invites children of all ages and their families to join the Summer Reading Club 2024, running from June 10 to August 26. This year's program promises a summer full of engaging activities, interactive workshops, and exciting events, all designed to foster a love of reading and learning and prevent kids from experiencing a summer slide in reading and learning.  

The Summer Reading Club 2024 aims to keep children engaged, learning, and discovering new stories throughout the summer. With a wide range of virtual and in-person events, there's something for every child from 4 to 12 years old. The initiative encourages reading through fun and interactive activities that will inspire young minds to explore the joy of reading, spark their curiosity and build their literacy skills. 

Highlights of the Summer Reading Club 2024 include: 

  • Ingenium Museum Workshops: Interactive workshops on animals, designed to spark curiosity and creativity for family 4+ (available in English or French) 

  • Ingenium Museum Workshops: Interactive workshops on satellite imagery, designed to spark curiosity and creativity for ages 8-12 (available in English) 

  • Ottawa Art Gallery Art Workshops: Hands-on art workshops fostering creativity and expression, suitable for children aged 7-12 (available in English or French) 

  • Canadian Museum of History's History Boxes: Hands-on learning experiences featuring authentic and reproduction artifacts from Canada's history. These boxes will travel to 16 OPL branches in July and August, sparking conversations about different periods in Canada’s history. Throughout the summer, children can also participate in weekly Storytimes, interactive Storywalks, and other displays and activities in branch designed to promote reading and learning. Weekly prizes and a grand prize of magazine subscriptions will be awarded to participants, adding an extra element of excitement.
