OTTAWA – October being Canadian Library Month, Ottawa Public Library invites you to celebrate the joy of reading with activities, giveaways, and wonderful programs. This year's OPL theme, Joy of Reading/Joie de Lire, recognizes the expansive and inspiring world of reading in all its forms—whether it's books, magazines, newspapers, eBooks, or audiobooks. Reading brings joy in countless ways, and for many, the public library is where that joyful journey comes to life.
Whether it’s a gripping fantasy novel, a groundbreaking work of non-fiction, the latest magazines, or newspapers from around the world, the Library is full of material to open readers up to experiences beyond everyday life or enhance understanding about ourselves and the world.
Sonia Bebbington, OPL’s Chief Librarian/CEO, says: "At the heart of every public library is the joy of reading, built on a foundation of literacy skills that allow stories to come alive and lifelong learning to flourish. This Library Month, we celebrate the limitless journeys that a book can inspire. Whether it's an escape, an inquiry, a spark to ignite our imagination, or comfort for our soul, the joy of reading can connect and empower."
Special thanks to the Friends of Ottawa Public Library for their support of Library Month and to OPL all year long!

Anyone who refers and recommends OPL to a friend or family member who gets a new card will also receive a bag. These limited-edition book bags are going to fly off the shelves like bestsellers so spread the word and share the joy of reading with friends and neighbours.
Golden Tickets Are Here!
Back by popular demand, originally inspired by a book about a certain extraordinary chocolate factory, Golden Tickets are hiding in all 33 branches, on the bookmobile, and in surrounding communities, waiting to be found by you. Each golden ticket can be redeemed for a Joy of Reading book bag to show off a love for books and carry home a stash of reading treasures.
Spotlight on Two Flagship Events:
One of the highlights of Library Month will be a hilarious event with witty comedian and actor Steve Patterson (in English) and a dreamy and delightful chance to attend an adult writing workshop with the award-winning author and illustrator of children’s books Marie-Louise Gay (in French). These accomplished and captivating writers, creators and library fans will entertain, enlighten, and add to the joy of Library Month.
