OTTAWA – October 1 marks the start of Library Month — a month-long celebration of the vital role libraries plays in the lives of Canadians. Throughout October, libraries across the country highlight their impact on communities. This year, Ottawa Public Library (OPL) is inviting everyone to join in the festivities under the theme: Meet Me at the Library!
A Third Space for Everyone
The 2025 theme, Meet Me at the Library, is an open invitation to rediscover the library as Ottawa’s “third space” — not home, not work, but the perfect place in between. Our spaces are open, welcoming, and free for everyone. Whether you’re here to hang out, find your next read, or try something new, you’ll feel at home.
Library Month Concerts
Main, Cumberland, Greenboro, and Nepean Centrepointe branches are hosting live performances this month because each branch houses OPL’s collection of musical instruments. These events offer clients and visitors a special opportunity to enjoy their library spaces with live music and community, explore the collection, and learn how to borrow instruments themselves.
Everyone is invited to these four live concerts!
- Saturday, October 4 at 2 pm – Moonfruits | Cumberland branch
- Saturday, October 11 at 2 pm – Monkey Rock | Greenboro branch
- Saturday, October 18 at 2 pm – Mia Kelly | Main branch
- Saturday, October 25 at 2 pm – Keith Whiteduck | Nepean Centrepointe
#LibraryVibes...Online
To keep the celebrations going online, OPL invites everyone to join in a fun contest for the chance to win a library tote bag and other Library Month prizes. Simply post a photo or video of yourself relaxing or having fun at an OPL branch — or using OPL’s digital services — on social media with the hashtags: #LibraryVibes and #Ambiancebiblio.
In-Branch Giveaways
During October, the Library is giving away tote bags at each branch — pop around your local branch to say hi, and you might just get one! And for teens and young adults, programs this month come with extra perks: keychains, mini notebooks, and tasty snacks — because celebrations should be fun for everyone!
